THE NNAABAGEREKA OF BUGANDA
SYLIVA NAGGINDA LUSWATA

Sylvia Nagginda is Queen Consort to Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the King (Kabaka) of the Kingdom of Buganda. She is a transformational leader who has inspired and motivated many women, youth and children to achieve their dreams, goals and aspirations, and is an icon of humanity and a beacon of hope to the people she serves.

She founded the Nnabagereka Development Foundation in 2000, through which she has done charitable work in education, skilling, and health care to advance sustainable human capital development.

She is revitalising African value systems in Uganda through the integration of Obuntubulamu in all Foundation programmes and outreaches that empower individuals to reclaim their cultural heritage and use values such as such as truth, honesty, justice, kindness, generosity, and tolerance for social development.

She supports initiatives that improve the quality education for children, entrepreneurship and vocational skilling for the youth, and women’s economic empowerment, in partnership with the Buganda Kingdom government, central government institutions and development partners. In 2022, she also founded the Nnaabagereka Nagginda Women’s Fund whose principle objective is to effectively mobilise resources that will help to create sustainable social investments in children, youth and women to address persisting socio-economic challenges in the post-COVID 19 pandemic era.

She is the patron of Hospice Africa Uganda, Child Fund International Uganda, the Makerere University Female Scholarship Initiative, the Programme for Accessible Health Communication and Education, Conservation through Public Health, and the Buganda Kingdom Tourism Board.

Queen Sylvia Nagginda was the founder member of the African Queens and Women Cultural Leaders Network, co-founder and patron of African Royals for Culture and Development, and a founder member of the Board of the African Philanthropy Forum, and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Global Thinkers Forum.

She holds a Master of Arts degree, with distinction, from New York Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. Her major field of study was public relations, including economics, journalism and corporate communications and gained most of her professional work experience in the United States, when after graduating she worked as a Public Information Officer, a Research Consultant at the United Nations headquarters, and engaged in independent consultancy in public relations and business development with Gardiner Kamya & Associates PC, and Maximus Inc. on World Bank projects.

She authored her biography titled ‘The Nnaabagereka Queen Sylvia Nagginda Luswata – Life, Passion, Duty,’ and launched it in March 2023. Her autobiography was the first to top the ‘new book releases’ under the Historical Biographies category on the Amazon best selling list for over a month.

She has graced several regional and international conferences with her presence and made keynote speeches in several African countries, in Europe and the United States.
